Ghanaian Foundation Wins 2017 Philanthropy Award

The Osei-Kusi Foundation was recently awarded ‘The Philanthropic Foundation of the Year’ at the 2017 Philanthropy Excellence Award in Ghana.

The award was debuted at the National Philanthropy Forum which held on March 24th, 2017 in Accra. The Forum, now in its 2nd year, provides a platform where social entrepreneurs, philanthropists and other personnel in the nonprofit sector share best practices and showcase their programmatic achievements. It also recognizes individuals and philanthropists making a difference in various communities.

The Osei-Kusi Foundation was founded by Dr. Kofi Osei-Kusi, a social entrepreneur with over two decades of experience in youth mentorship. He has transformed the lives of young Ghanaians through his coaching sessions, leadership and training seminars, and personal development books. He was the winner of the 2016 SME Ghana High Impact Personality Award; and in 2016 and 2017, he was named as one of the 30 Heroes of Change by the MTN Ghana Foundation.

The award-winning Foundation has also made significant efforts in helping young people discover their purpose and maximise their potential. Through donations and partnerships, the Foundation provides youth training programmes focused on leadership, academic scholarships to underprivileged and physically impaired students, and a popular community service award scheme. This award scheme offers university students an opportunity to compete and win GH¢ 10,000 to support selected community development projects.

To carry out its work effectively, the Foundation is supported by over seventy volunteers who help to drive its rural missions. These volunteers are nurses and doctors who help facilitate health screenings, and support staff who help collect and distribute in-kind donations in rural communities.

The Osei-Kusi Foundation is well on its way to achieving its vision of becoming Ghana’s foremost youth-focused foundation.
